Out of Province Vehicle Registration
Motor vehicle registration in Alberta from another province or state:
Welcome to Alberta!
To help you have a nice, easy transition into our province, you'll need the
following documents to register your vehicle here.
For Vehicles previously licensed in another Province:
Step 1.
Attend our registry office with your previous vehicle registration and ID.
We will create something called an “Out Of Province Request Form” using your
previous registration. This from then needs to be taken to a licensed
mechanic, who will then complete the inspection on your vehicle.

Once the vehicle has passed the inspection proceed to step 2.
Step 2.
After the vehicle has passed the inspection you will need to attend our
registry office to obtain License Plates and Registration for your vehicle.
To properly register the Vehicle we require the documents listed below.

Previous Registration
·
Valid and passed Out Of Province Inspection Form (this form is only
valid for 14 days from the date of inspection, please make sure it hasn’t
expired)
·
Current Insurance Policy and/or Pink Liability Card
·
Identification of the registrant
Once all the above requirements have been met, we can issue Alberta plates
and registration. Registration is required to be renewed annually in
Alberta.
For Imported
Vehicles (from the U.S.A or other countries):
Step 1
Please visit the Registrar of Imported Vehicles website:

to obtain detailed information on the process of importing a vehicle.
Step 2
Once the vehicle has met all the requirements of the Registrar of Imported
Vehicles, you must attend our office to obtain Alberta plates and
registration for the vehicle. To properly register the vehicle we require
the documents listed below:

Proof of ownership e.g. Certificate of Title, Bill of Sale, Lease
agreement, previous registration or Certificate of Origin

Valid and passed Form 1 from Canada Customs
(MUST be the original, no exceptions)
·
Completed Provincial inspection (if applicable)
·
Current Insurance Policy and/or Pink Liability Card
·
Identification of the registrant
Once all the above requirements have been met, we can issue Alberta plates
and registration. Registration is required to be renewed annually in
Alberta.
